My 15-minutes of fame

This weekend, my mom came to visit so we could go to the 13th annual Trash to Treasure Sale at Penn State's Beaver Stadium. This sale, which is a cooperative between Penn State and Centre County United Way, gives State College residents the chance to purchase the unwanted items that PSU students donate to the cause before they leave for summer break.

Surprisingly, in the 14 years I've lived in State College, I've never gone to this sale, probably because I am not crazy about fighting crowds, and this event draws quite a crowd. My mom and I thought about paying $5.00 each to be early birds so we could get first dibs on the best items, but neither one of us wanted to get up at 5 AM to get a good place in line. So, we waited until 9:00 to enter for free. We walked right in, grabbed our lime green trash to treasure totes, compliments of our local Wegmans, and started shopping, You could tell the place had been picked over, but there was still quite a selection.

The first thing I spied was a black, white, and pick reversible comforter... it would go perfectly in my daughter's pink and yellow room with her zebra carpet. I snagged it, but then I had no hands to pick through the piles and piles of clothes that were calling my name. I was an obvious amateur. I needed something with wheels. Then, I saw it... an abandon shopping cart. Whoever thought of bringing a shopping cart was a genius. It was a true lifesaver. I was able to spend 2 and half hours of focused, hands-free shopping.

I ended up with some really great finds that I can't wait to share with you in my future posts, and I even made the local news. Check it out!
