So, by now, you know from my previous posts (
Don't be afraid...part 1 and
Don't be afraid...part 2), that my daughter Eliza is not afraid to take a fashion risk. What you might not know is that it is because of her that I have learned to make more courageous clothing choices. Here's a good example of how she inspires me.
Shortly after I wrote the post on gray and gold,
Building confidence with color, that color combo jumped out at me everywhere That's what drew me to this super-cute frock at Goodwill.

When I pulled it off the rack, I noticed that it had a lining (the sign of a well-made garment), and in addition to the colors, I also liked the neckline, the over-sized stitching, the artistic pattern, and the adorable bow in the back.

It was unlike anything else I currently owned, which was exactly why I almost didn't buy it. It put me out of my comfort zone. Then, I thought, this is exactly why I
should buy it. Why not step out of my comfort zone, and have a little fun? Eliza has fun with clothes... why can't I? (I just have to be careful because I am not 10, and I don't want to look like I am trying too hard to be young and trendy.) So, as I stood in line having this conversation with myself, I decided to ask some women in front of me, who looked to be about my age, what they thought. I asked the formidable question, "Do you think I am too old to wear this?" (In
my mind, I am still 25, so I needed some confirmation from someone other than myself.) Luckily, they dispelled any concerns I had about being too old. (Thank you, kind ladies.)
I made my purchase without an iota of buyer's remorse. It's a fun piece and I get compliments every time I wear it. So, the next time you're on the fence about a daring new look, just think, "Would Eliza approve?" And, if it's less than $5.00, just go for it. Happy shopping!

I like it! The blazer from your previous post was a bit of a fashion risk for me, but now that I've worn it a few times it feels natural.
