Happy 2014… the year of the owl?

So, I’ve been noticing owls everywhere... from handbags to  change purses, from phone cases to jewelry, from pillows to dinnerware.

Apparently owls are in. Owls are cute and wise. So, when I saw this trendy sweater at Ross, I couldn’t resist. (What better way to represent the wise choice of shopping smart?)

I like the owl design, but I especially like the cut of the sweater, squared off in front, slightly longer in the back. Plus, it incorporated all of my favorite colors (brown, green, orange), making it easy to coordinate with current closet inventory.

So, because I just celebrated my birthday, I decided to treat myself and break every one of my self-imposed shopping rules: it was not on the clearance rack, it was not a sale item, and it was not “gently used”. I spent $19.99 on this little gem, which is a little on the steep side for me, but it was still a wise investment. I’ve already worn it three times since Christmas, so I am sure to get my money’s worth.

Here’s my favorite outfit so far:
Owl sweater: $19.99 (Ross Dress for Less)
American Eagle Outfitters wool skirt: $4.99 (Goodwill)
Orange tights: $4.99 (Target)
Brown lace tights: Christmas gift from Mom
Rocket Dog boots: $19.99 (The Shoe Department)
For Christmas, my mom got me some brown lace tights. I liked the pattern, but I didn't want to wear them over bare legs, so I layered them with my favorite orange tights.

I really like the resulting effect:

So, I am not sure exactly when the owl trend started, but for me, it started in 2014!
